KMCC blast past Burton
Following their drab performance of the previous week, KMCC and Hooks, in particular, gave their supporters their most rousing victory of the season. Losing the toss on a dry and breezy day at the renowned batting strip of the BLCG Goldie and Peter Kirk needed all their collective nous to keep scoring to a minimum. However, the Burton innings was ticking along nicely at 60-0 before Kirk and Goldie removed the openers. Runs still flowed throughout the innings with Hooks applying the brakes by grabbing 2 wickets in one over and finishing on 3-52 and Duncan bowling well at the death. 218-6 although a good score looked possible at tea.
KMCC started steadily and although pegged back by the loss of Fraser,I (a makeshift opener) and subsequently Harford-Cross,36 and Fraser,D the game was evenly balanced with 7 an over required when skipper, Atkinson marched to the crease. Leading from the front Brad caressed 3 sixes back over various bowlers heads in his 45 and with Hooks easing the ball to all parts from the other end victory was soon assured. The fireworks arrived in Horners first over back as the over went for 23-2 (6664WW) with both Hooks, 72 (caught on the boundary looking for yet another six), and Brad dismissed. It then required Dujon and Goldie to complete the march to a well earned victory - sealed with the breaking of another tile on the pavilion roof, 223-5 at the close.
