KMCC vs Studley Royal C.C.

Dacre strangle Kirkby batting

In what should have been a showpiece for the second division Kirkby initially struggled fought back and then capitulated tamely. Having won the toss and inserted Dacre all seemed to have gone wrong as the Dacre batsmen seemed at ease with the KMCC attack. A dropped catch on the boundary by CH-C didn't help matters and when a stumping appeal was turned down off Tuffers bowling then all seemed lost and a score in excess of 250 likely. However, steaming up the hill Duncan turned the game round with a rip roaring spell of 5-41 the best figures for a Kirkby bowler this season. Dacre had collapsed from a position of strength to what seemed like an attainable score of 195-6 at tea.

The Kirkby riposte however started tamely and continued in the same vein throughout as the Dacre bowlers stuck rigourously to a military medium pace and nagging line. Runs simply did not flow and as the pressure mounted wickets started to tumble with the score finishing on a miserable 105 all out. This was a particularly disappointing result for KMCC who failed to show much of the title winning credentials of 2002 against a team who they will surely be playing again in two years time.
