Rain and no brain
As has been written many times this season a farce of a game left KMCC with egg on their faces once again. In fact following perpetual rain the game should have been called off before anyone actually turned up at the ground, but the refusal of the Strays captain to accept the weather saw 22 disgruntled players sitting around twiddling their thumbs for hours before play actually began 3 hours later.
When play did start a depleted Kirkby bowling attack missing Hooks, Fraser and Blackburn through injury did their best but were let down dismally by yet another inept fielding display in which 9 catches went down and balls shot through the legs of fielders on a regular basis. 173-6 from 25 overs was always going to be too much when a more realistic 130 should have been achieved.
Despite early wickets of the openers Fraser gave KM half a chance with a quick 24 however once dismissed a woeful middle period of 14 runs from 8 overs for no wickets ended any chances of a Kirkby victory. In fact 50 runs were required from the last five overs to secure what should have been an easy point - and despite an injection of pace into the innings by Goldie KM fell 2 runs short with Bradley refusing to take a chance from the last ball. The only highlight of the day was Iain's first attempt at Flange cake - see above.
